805 million people worldwide do not have enough foodto eat. Food banks are especially importnt in providing food for peoplethat cant afford it themselves. 1The Helping Hand Project cooks, packages and distributes food to the homeless and needy in the Brussels area. This is an initiative of The Food Bridge vzw and is being carried out in partnership with Kwabre Ne Sekyere Belgium, Mfantseman vzw , Voice of women International and GC De Platoo.

We are appealing for volunteers to join us cook, package and distribute food. We also need donations but for this project, we don not accept cash donations. You can either donate raw food via designated channels, takeaway packs, serviettes,  plastic cutleries  or donate your time. So if you have some time to spare over the coming months, you can join us or if you have any catering material that may be of use to us, do not hesitate to get in touch.  Research led by African based academicians is very relevant in the fight against hunger, poverty and under development. These researchers are part of the communities, thus they know what the challenges are. With the right support - be it partnerships, collaborations, sponsorships and funds, they can forestall some of the food, hunger and development issues before they occur.

The Food Bridge vzw held a meeting in Nigeria with the Imo State University's Agriculture and Rural Development Department, to explore ways we can collaborate and work on mutually beneficial projects. The staff and students are highly motivated but can only do so little without the extra support needed, to insure the viability and visibility of their research projects . The Dean of the faculty Prof Ekenyem took the coordinator of The Food Bridge vzw Dr Maureen Duru, round their faculty and facilities to see some of the research projects they already have.
